Mildred Dockter Thurn, 86, Bismarck, ND, died on Sunday, July 16, 2017. Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, July 20, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 Osage Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Craig Schweitzer officiating. Private family burial will held at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday, July 19, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Mildred was born on June 11, 1931, in Venturia, ND, to Edwin and Elizabeth (Schmierer) Dockter. She attended elementary school in Venturia and high school in Ashley. She married Herb Thurn on March 31, 1951, in Camp Rucker, Alabama. They lived in Bismarck for the last 42 years. Mildred worked for the Bismarck Public Schools for 18 years. She was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, where she participated in many activities including the Quilters Group. Mildred was an active member of the local and national Germans from Russia Heritage Society. She enjoyed many activities with her family and traveling with her husband during their retirement. She did many scrapbooks of those activities. Mildred was also a volunteer with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Mildred is survived by her husband of 66 years, Herbert Thurn; three children, Clark (Claudia) Thurn, Cheryl (Duane) Rockvoy, and Clarice (Troy) Lancaster; five grandchildren, Courtney (Tyler) Ross, Chelsey (Ashton) Gronewold, Cassie (Brad) Bethke, Mitchell Lancaster, and Taylor Lancaster; four great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Eleanor Bertsch and Dianne Kalberer. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters, Priscilla Dale, Thelma Bertsch, and Loretta Hoff.
