Nila Pudwill, 62, Bismarck, passed away on June 12, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, June 15, at McCabe United Methodist Church, 1030 N 6th St., Bismarck, with Rev. Jenny Hallenbeck Orr and Rev. Rick Fossum officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Nila was born on December 9, 1954, in Breckenridge, MN. She was 1 of 10 children, (5 boys and 5 girls). She graduated high school in Bismarck and joined the Navy for three years after graduation. She was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, at the naval base in the administration department of the naval hospital. She always shared her fond memories of the area and its beauty. Later she pursued cosmetology school, graduating successfully and beginning her long career of making things beautiful. This also ensured lifelong haircuts for the entire Pudwill clan. She married the love of her life, Marshall Pudwill, on September 13, 1979. This would be the start of a beautiful and long lasting marriage for the next 38 years. Together they had two children, Michael Leo and Katherine Renee. She loved them more than words, and always kept them close to her heart. Nila had many passions, and chief among them was her passion for art. This took many forms, but most prominently, came in her love for cake decorating. For years she created beautiful masterpieces for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and even wedding cakes. Her skill and creativity at this never ceased to amaze her family and friends. She belonged to McCabe United Methodist Church and was a main staple on any needs the church would have. From assisting with after school church programs, to children’s church camp, her favorite way to contribute to the church community was by decorating it and making it a beautiful space to be in. She believed in a welcoming format and she would never expect any accolades or recognition. Doing this for the people of McCabe was one of her true loves. Nila Renee Pudwill was many things to many people. She was an amazing wife and partner, a loving mother, a creative mind and a giver to all. From her artistic abilities to the way she approached everyone that crossed her path, she was an artist in every sense of the word. Nila is survived by her husband, Marshall Pudwill; her children, Michael and his wife Kayla Pudwill in Denver, CO, and Katherine Pudwill in Washington DC. She is also survived by four remaining sisters, Darla Vixie in Arizona, Carol Fuller in Detroit Lakes, MN, Linda and Kevin Bolin in Yakima, WA, Tana and John Charvat in Mandan, ND; two brothers, Ron and Jean Wold in New England, ND, and Tom Wold in Bismarck. My wife, my best friend and my soul mate of 38 years gave in to God’s calling. She beat cancer two times but it got the best of her the 3rd time. This journey against cancer was 4 and ½ years and during this her faith was unwavering, we took each day one at a time and lived on hope and prayer. We spent 9 months in Rochester and saw the worst of the worst and always thanked God for our daily achievements. I will remember these times. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Nila’s name may be given to the McCabe Foundation.
