Nina Stratton, 92, passed away April 3, 2021 in Arizona. A graveside service will be held 12 p.m. Friday, April 16 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Nina M. Stratton was born October 2, 1928 in Manhattan, Kansas, to Earnest Lee and Eva Mae (Rowe) Raines. She was raised and received her early education in the cities of Manhattan, Mound City, Olathe, and Wichita, Kansas. Nina attended Kansas State University and following her graduation in 1950, fulfilled her one-year internship in Dietetics and Institutional Management at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. She was employed with St Joseph’s Hospital in Wichita, St. Anthony’s Hospital in Dodge City, and Larned State Hospital in Larned, KS. On August 19, 1951, Nina married Lewis Dean Stratton in Wichita. They resided in Ulysses, Dodge City, Larned, and Salina, KS, before their move to Bismarck in 1974. Following retirement, Nina and Dean spent their winters in Arizona. After the death of her husband, Nina moved to Glendale, AZ.
Nina was a member of United Methodist Church, an auxiliary member of the Soil Conservation Service, and a prior member of the American Association of University Women and American Dietetic Association. She enjoyed needlework, craft projects, biking, walking, reading and puzzles in her spare time. Nina was highly committed in all she endeavored and held essential the value of honesty.
She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and many good friends.
She is survived by her son, Wayne L. Stratton, Austin, TX; daughter, Lisa A Lewis, Surprise, AZ; and her sister, Lela Cooley, Lawrence, KS.
Memorials may be sent to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
