Patricia "Patty" Schneider

Patricia (Patty) Ann Schneider, 61, of Bismarck, ND, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, February 16th, at Parkway Funeral Home, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 North 4^th Street, Bismarck, ND, with Rev. Mark Narum officiating. Patty was born on March 17, 1962, in Bismarck, ND to Alvin and Shirley (Thompson) Merkel. She was raised and attended school in Bismarck. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1980. Patty was employed by the ND State Health Department where she held various roles. She retired in January 2022 after 42 years of service.

Patty married Leland Schneider on October 8, 1994, in Bismarck. Together they enjoyed traveling to car shows, swap meets, Nascar races, and country concerts. Some of her favorite destinations included trips to Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Nashville. 

Patty loved to do things for others and would strive to make sure things were just the way she thought they should be. She gave everything the attention it deserved and gave it her personal touch. She was known for making candy for weddings; cooking for a holiday or get together, picking out the right birthday or anniversary card, shopping for that matching piece for her outfit or home décor, or just picking out that perfect gift.  She was very involved with her family. She looked forward to and attended events including school and Christmas programs, proms, concerts, sporting events, and Saturday family lunches. She never missed a special occasion. Patty was a generous person who put others before herself. She even felt bad when she won a game for quarters or money and offered to give the money back.   

Patty is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Leland Schneider, of Bismarck; sisters and brothers in law, Connie (Alan) Trauger, Brenda (Greg) Holzworth, and Verna Merkel, all of Bismarck; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Keith (Jennifer) Merkel and Kevin (Karla) Merkel, all of Bismarck; father-in-law Herman Schneider; sister-in-law Diana Schneider; her nieces and nephews, Kristi (Chad) Sundsbak, godson Nathan (Terri) Trauger, godson Matthew (Pam) Holzworth, Shawn Holzworth, Megan (Jerry) Spitzer, Timothy Merkel, Myranda (Brandon) Page, Macy (Zach) Eddy, and goddaughter Marissa Merkel, her great-nieces and great-nephews, Sydney Sundsbak, Ryan Sundsbak, Noah Trauger, Ayden Merkel, Charlie Spitzer, Emma Spitzer, Hendrix Page and Grayson Page; and aunts, uncle, cousins, and friends. 

Patty was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Shirley Merkel, brother Ricky Merkel, mother-in-law Dena Schneider, and niece-in-law, Lindsay Trauger.

The family would like to thank Dr Gray and the oncology staff at Sanford Health and the Sanford Hospice team for the special care given to Patty. A special thanks to Patty's primary hospice nurse, Lisa, hospice CNA, Leigh, and hospice social worker, Jill for their kindness and support.
