Paul was born in Beulah, ND on October 31, 1938 to Albert and Ella (Wiedrich) Reinhardt, and raised on a farm 7 miles north of Zap, ND. He received education at a country school until the age of 14, when he began working full-time on the family farm and for other farmers in the area. At the age of 18, Paul began working for Schultz and Lindsay Construction company.
Paul married Lillian Pfingsten on April 24, 1960 at Peace Lutheran Church in Hazen, ND. They lived in many locations throughout North Dakota as Paul worked construction and helped build Interstate 94. In 1961 they settled in Hazen, ND and Paul worked for Baukol-Noonan Lignite in Center, ND, which later became BNI Coal. He worked as a shovel operator and remained employed with BNI Coal until his retirement in 2004.
In his earlier years, summer weekends were spent as a family camping near the Garrison Dam and boating on Lake Sakakawea. Winters were spent snowmobiling, including trips to Yellowstone. Paul loved to waltz and polka, and he and Lillian spent many weekends at dances and listening to their “old-time” music on the radio. They enjoyed traveling and went on yearly vacations, eventually visiting all 50 states.
In later years, Paul enjoyed spending winters in Arizona, ushering at the Norsk Hostfest in Minot, volunteering at Medora, and was an avid pinochle player. Most of all, he loved spending time with friends and family, especially his four grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lillian; children, Lynette (Lewis) Hinckley of Bismarck, and LeAnn (Jeff) Hovdenes of Fargo; sister, Deloris (Curtis) Wells of Lemmon, SD; and grandchildren, Lofton Hinckley, Lauryn Hinckley, Alex Hovdenes, and Adam Hovdenes.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ella, and his infant brother, Fredrick.
