Pauline Smith

Pauline (Paula) Smith, 95, Bismarck, died January 27, 2025, at CHI St. Alexius after a short illness.

Paula was born February 23, 1929, on a farm east of Hettinger, to parents Sam and Helen (Eichenlaub) Rambur. Paula attended first grade in Haynes and in 1936, they moved to the family farm northeast of Hettinger, where she attended Chandler School. In 1944, the farm was sold and the family moved to Carson where Paula graduated from high school in 1947. In 1947, Paula moved to Fargo to attend Dakota Business College. She graduated in December 1948 and moved to Bismarck.

Paula loved having her family around, especially during the holidays. She taught her children and grandchildren the art of making cheese buttons and cherished her time with her five great-grandsons and great-great-granddaughter.

Paula is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Mark) Bakke, Arnegard; son, Doug (Karla) Bismarck; grandchildren, Cole (Jessica) Arndt, Williston, Bob (Jessica) Arndt, Bismarck, Lauren Smith, Fargo and Ryanne Smith, Chicago; great-grandchildren, Austin (Jessica) Arndt, Williston, Carson Arndt, Williston, Joseph, Andrew and Michael Arndt, Bismarck; great-great granddaughter, Savannah Arndt, Williston and her sister-in-law, Doreen Rambur. Paula is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and her special friends Mary, Fornshell and Marge Tschosik.

Paula was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; brothers, Tony (Terri) and Mike Rambur; sister, Christine MacDonald; brother-in-law, Bill MacDonald; and nephews, Craig MacDonald and Perry Rambur.

All memorials will be donated to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery Foundation in Mandan.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM, Monday, February 3, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00PM, Sunday, February 2, at Touchmark, 1000 West Century Ave, Bismarck.

Burial will be 3:00 PM, Monday, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
