Philip Kurtz, 92, Steele, passed away on February 20, 2018, at Sunset Continuing Care Center, Mandan. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Monday, February 26, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Steele, with Rev. Jerome Hunkler officiating. Burial will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 27, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation and rosary will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Lunch will be served after the service. Philip was born on December 21, 1925, in Hazelton, ND, the son of Stanley and Frances (Baker) Kurtz. He attended Hazelton Schools and graduated in 1943. Philip served two tours in the Army during WWII and Korea and was in the Signal Corp. serving in the Philippine Islands. Philip married Geneva Heaton in 1957 and to this union eight children were born. Philip was involved in construction work and piloted a small airplane around the country for jobs logging more than 2000 hours. He was past president of the North Dakota Rodeo Association. He leaves his wife of 61 years; eight children; 13 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Philip was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
