Phyllis J. Falkenstein, 85, died August 15, 2017, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Family will greet visitors from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Friday August 18 at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Avenue, Bismarck, where sharing of memories will begin at 6:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, on Saturday August 19, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 1143 N 26th St, Bismarck, with Pastor Nadine Lehr officiating. Phyllis J. Johnson was born August 21, 1931 in Bismarck ND to Carl and Bessie Johnson. She attended Crofte 2 Country School, Ecklund School, and Bismarck High School. She also received a teaching certificate from Valley City and taught school at Ecklund 4 School. Phyllis married Leslie Falkenstein on June 18. They spent their first year of marriage living on the farm. They also resided in Wing and Wilton, before returning to the farm in the late 60’s. Phyllis was known for her friendship, delivery of homemade breads and her many quilts. As a family they enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. She found joy in her dogs, kite flying, being a 4-H leader, writing the “Highway 36 News” for the Leader News and quilting at the church. Phyllis leaves many memories to her loving husband Leslie of 67 years, daughter Joan (Chuck) Bauer, Coleharbor, son Kurt (Adair), Regan, daughter-in-law Shirley Kuehne, Farmington, MN, daughter-in-law Jacklyn Falkenstein, Falcon Heights, MN, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and foster children. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons Alan and Kevin, siblings Kenneth M. Johnson, Cleo Hartman, Betty Johnson and Dean Johnson.
