Phyllis Nelson

Phyllis Nelson, 93, Bismarck, died July 27, 2018, at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, July 30, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Sunday, July 29, at Parkway Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Phyllis Ruth Pletan, the daughter of Rudolph and Ottilia Pletan, was born on October 6, 1924. She lived with the family on the farm 5 miles north of Dunn Center, ND. She attended Dunn Center High School where she was active in sports and music and graduated in 1943 with honors. Her greatest wish was to be a teacher, and after attending Dickinson State college, she taught school in Oakdale, Bowman, and Lincoln, ND. In 1948 she became engaged to William (Bill) Nelson and was married on August 14, 1949. Together they had 3 children, Larry, LaVonne, and Dean. She is survived by her sons, Larry (Karen) Nelson and Dean (Lauri) Nelson; son-in-law, Randy (LaVonne) Tank; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brother, Don (Jacque); and two sisters, Joyce Peterson and Loretta (Tom) Hoversten. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, of 65 years; her parents, Rudolph and Ottilia Pletan; brothers, Ernest, Ralph, Duane, Gordon, and Owen Pletan; sister, Marlys (Pletan) Vaagen; and her daughter, LaVonne (Randy) Tank.
