Ramona Jeanne Sletten, 88, died April 22, 2018, at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, ND. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Augusta Place, 316 Versailles Ave., Bismarck. Ramona was born September 9, 1929, on a farm near Maza, ND to Mae (Gallinger) and William “Buff” Hillerman. She attended school in Churchs Ferry. With her husband, they raised 4 children on their farm near Churchs Ferry. In addition to farm life, she was active in Zion Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and member of Ladies Aid. Using her “portable” Singer sewing machine, she made many quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She was a strong believer in education, serving many years as secretary on the school board. Through their membership in ND Farm Bureau, Mona & Robert supported the farming community. Along with her mother, she was involved in Irvine Homemakers. Putting her fashion sense to use, she worked as a sales associate for Kelly’s Apparel in Devils Lake for over 20 years beginning in the early 80’s. Her dad said she was the best hired hand he ever had, but she also had an eye for fashion and color that her customers appreciated. She drove tractor and hauled grain, but could also cook a mean roast and make delicious desserts. Her strong ND farm arms rolled the best lefse ever, as far as her children & grandchildren are concerned. Ramona married her husband of 70 years, Robert Maynard Sletten, on January 12, 1946. Together they had four children, son Terry (Dawn) Sletten, Billings, MT; daughter Elizabeth (Betty) (Jerel) Blair, Bartlett, TN; son Bradley (Ellen) Sletten, Moorhead, MN: and daughter Roberta (Scott) Modin, Bismarck, ND. She is survived by her children; her grandchildren, Robyn (Tom) Barta and Tiffany McNeff, Billings, MT; Nicole (Matt) Conoly, Baldwin, ND; Holly (Matt) Wallace, Austin, TX; Sarah (David) Parnell and Ashley Sletten, San Diego, CA; Douglas Sletten, Horace, ND; Wendell Sletten, Mora, MN; Robert Modin and Emma Modin, Bismarck, ND, and great-grandchildren McKenna Volbrecht; Owen, Patrick, Quinton and Erin Conoly; Taryn McNeff; Payton and Dylan Wallace; and Alana Parnell. She is also survived by a brother, Bill Hillerman, of Pikeville, KY, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her friends and staff at Augusta Place, where she lived since 2012. They will remember her “spunk” and her friends will miss playing whist, bowling & bingo with her. She also enjoyed the craft activities, especially making fleece tie blankets & cards. Mona’s family would like to extend a special thank you to fellow resident Mae Buchli for making sure Mom didn’t miss their afternoon whist games, Wii bowling, and bingo. We believe this simple act of kindness helped Mom get through her grief after Dad died. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Joyce Waller. Memorials can be made to Augusta Place, 301 Lorrain Drive, Bismarck, ND 58503.
