Reinhold Reuer was born November 19, 1927 to Gottleib and Carolina Reuer on the family farm southwest of Tappen, ND. He was the youngest of his three siblings: Emil, Gerhardt, and Anna. He was baptized at Glueckstal Lutheran Church which was located not far from the family farm and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church in Napoleon. He went to school at Valley School #2 through the 7th grade and then quit and helped on the family farm. Reinhold’s father, Gottleib, passed away in 1956 and after that he continued to help his mom on the family farm. They had grain farming, stock cattle, and a few milk cows. Gottleib was treasurer of Valley Township and after his death Reinhold took over the office and held it for 24 years. In 1968 Reinhold met Delores Abbey on a blind date arranged by his cousin Doris Reuer. On October 15, 1969, they got married. They moved a house from south of Napoleon to the homestead close to his Mothers’ home. They had two daughters, LaVone, born June 9, 1970, and Julie, born January 28, 1974. Reinhold and Delores enjoyed them both very much as they were growing up. LaVone and Julie both attended Tappen Elementary School and graduated from Tappen High School. They were also both baptized in the same church as Reinhold. Both daughters went to college, one for social work and the other for flower arranging. LaVone is married with two children and Julie has one child. Reinhold and Delores continued farming on his farm. They milked cows and sold milk and had some stock cows. After the bad winter of 1997 they sold the farm and bought a house in Steele, ND. Reinhold went for coffee a lot and helped keep up the house and yard. In December 2009, Delores was diagnosed with cancer. They both had their problems of which he had many. After an illness in June of 2010 his family moved him to the Terrace and Delores moved there in July. They sold their house in Steele in the fall of 2010. Reinhold is survived by his daughters, LaVone (Eb) Harnisch of Hebron, ND, and Julie Johnson of Mandan, ND; three grandchildren, Richard Harnisch, Monte Johnson, and Abbey Harnisch; his brother Gerhardt (Leona) Reuer, Jamestown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
