Dick was born to Al and Luella (Field) Cieslak on July 6, 1936 in Bismarck, ND. After brief stays in Chicago, IL and Lebanon, OR, the family reside in Bismarck. Dick attended St. Mary’s Central and graduated in 1955, which is where he met his wife of 66 years, Mary Werner. They had two sons, Sheldon and Rich.
He enlisted in the Air Force and spent four years in Colorado Springs, CO. After returning to Bismarck, Dick worked 35 years for Ed Phillips and Sons until his retirement.
The family had a cabin on Brush Lake where he enjoyed many summer days with his beloved grandchildren. He also loved spending time at his farm East of Bismarck. He took many fishing and hunting trips, traveling to Africa, Alaska and New Zealand with his “boys”.
Many an early morning, Dick could be seen having coffee with his friends. Always the quick witted jokester, his sense of humor brought smiles to everyone he encountered.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Sheldon (Joni) and son, Rich; grandchildren, Jenna Hanson (Tyler), Jordan Cieslak, Kamaria Cieslak and Austin Cieslak (Amy); great grandchildren, Bennett and Madilynn Hanson; brother, Eugene (Putt) and sister, Albina Bachmeier (Tony), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents Al and Luella Cieslak, father and mother-in-law, Anton and Barbara Werner and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
The family is forever grateful to the staff at CHI St. Alexius for the wonderful care and loving support he received.
Due to allergies, family requests no flowers.
