Richard Terry Fink, 67 passed away peacefully at his home on June 9th, 2019 after a short battle with cancer.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 14th at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 519 Raymond St, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 pm on Thursday June 13, 2019 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a rosary/vigil service will beginning at 7:00 pm. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Richard was born in Bismarck, ND to Robert and Verla (Bates) Fink.
After attending Bismarck High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and served during the Vietnam era until 1972.
He began his career as a brakeman for the Soo Line Railroad in Bismarck in 1973, transferring to Harvey, N.D. in 1986 as a conductor.
He married Cynthia (Cindy) Holzer on February 7, 1975 in Bismarck.
Richard was an avid fisherman. Fishing was more than a pastime for him. It was his calm. He shared his love for the sport with family and friends. He had a calm presence, wise counsel and generous spirit.
He served as president of the Bis-Man Reel & Rec Club for three years. He was director of the fishing tournament for three years and started the ice fishing derby for the club. He was a volunteer for the Take a Kid Fishing event for many years. He was involved in Lure’em for Life, a non-profit group organized to make sure underprivileged children get a chance to go fishing. He also served on the board of the North Dakota Sportfishing Congress, organized fund raisers and in addition, testifying at North Dakota Legislative hearings on behalf of fishing promotion and conservations in North Dakota. He devoted unlimited time to assure people enjoy North Dakota’s abundant fishing resources. His children, Terry and Jessica Fink nominated him to be inducted into the North Dakota Fishing Hall of Fame in 2017. A very proud moment for the entire family.
His greatest joy were his grandchildren. He loved them to the moon and back.
He is survived by his wife Cindy, Daughter-Jessica Rose (Chad) Joshua of Bismarck, Son- Terry Richard (Kiran) of Las Vegas, NV. Four Grandchildren- Jaxen Richard Joshua & Kooper Lawrence Joshua, Harper Paige Fink & Everett Otto Fink; Brothers-Robert Jr (Carol) of Roseville, CA, Dave (Cleo) of Bismarck, Cathy Becker of Lakewood, WA, Joe (Susan) of Tacoma, WA, James (Cindy) of Tacoma, WA, Chris of Tacoma, WA, and Mary Lyn (Ron) Woodall of Seattle, WA. Brother in Law- Wendelin “Wendy” Holzer of Bismarck. Numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents- Robert and Verla Fink, Brother- Gary, Grandparents- Otto and Julia Fink, Cliff and Rose Bates, In Laws- Lawrence and Helen Holzer, Sister in Law- Kathy Holzer
