Richard A. Hill, 73, died unexpectedly Dec. 15, 2020, at his home in Bismarck, North Dakota.
He was born Oct. 4, 1947 in Bismarck, North Dakota, the son of Warren and Leona Hill. Richard graduated from Bismarck High School, Class of 1965. Following graduation, he attended Bismarck Junior College for a short time until he was drafted to serve in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. After serving his term he returned to North Dakota.
Similar to many Vietnam Veterans, returning to civilian life presented many challenges. However, being dedicated to self-reliance, he remained employed, taking a variety of jobs such as truck driver, tree landscaper and at the end of his life delivering papers. It is a tribute to his strong work ethic that he worked up until just days before his death.
Dick knew many people in Bismarck, and retained several friends from his high school years. He went to community concerts, sporting events, and city council meetings regularly.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Survivors include his sisters: Susan J. McKenzie, and husband Mike, Bondurant, Iowa; Sandra K. Miller, and husband Patrick, Boulder Creek, California; Sally A. Hill of Midvale, Utah; and one brother, James P. Hill, and wife Irene, of Appleton, Washington.
An informal gathering for friends and family to share memories will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 29 at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck.
A formal funeral service will be held at a future date.
