Richard A. Schantz

Richard A. Schantz passed away on November 22nd peacefully at his home with loved ones by his side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 29th, 10:30 a.m. CST, at the Church of Sacred Heart, 204 E Ash Ave, Glen Ullin, North Dakota.

A Rosary will begin 1 hour before mass at Sacred Heart. Burial will be held following mass.

Richard was born on July 24, 1935 to George and Tecla (Anton) Schantz. He grew up on the family farm south of Glen Ullin, ND. On September 10, 1956, Richard married Loretta Schafer and together they raised 9 children. He farmed with his brothers until his oldest son and nephews took over operations. Richard continued to help on the farm and drive school bus for the Glen Ullin School District. On Friday and Saturday night if there was music being played locally you could find Richard and Loretta dancing the night away with their close friends. A handyman and a person of many talents, Richard enjoyed woodworking, shooting pool, and spending time with his family. He was an usher and helped with the maintenance of the church for Sacred Heart Parish. He set up the church nativity scene for many years. Richard loved to talk about and was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed sharing stories of old times and talking about the farm toys he made and woodworking he did.

Richard was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his family and many good friends. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Loretta; his 9 children; Terry (Shelby) Schantz of Glen Ullin; Dale (Ruby) Schantz of Peoria, AZ; Tammy (Gaylen) Schirado of Naples, ID; Lorie (Mitch) Gerving of Glen Ullin; Linda (Gary) Stenzel of Niagara Falls, NY; Russell (Vicky) Schantz of Golden Valley, ND; Joanie (Tim) Puchtler of Sunpee, NH; Rick (Tina) Schantz of Beulah, ND; Mary (Aric) Bandle of Bismarck, ND; 23 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 4 sisters; and 6 brothers.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister and 1 brother.
