Riley Neuhardt

Riley V. Neuhardt, 94, of Bismarck, died on April 24, 2025, at St. Gabriel's Community.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 30, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. 

Inurnment will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 30, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Riley was born on February 1, 1931, in Hebron, ND, the son of Katherine (Alexander) and Jacob J. Neuhardt. Riley’s family moved to Bismarck in 1943, and he graduated from Bismarck High School in 1949.

He married Betty Ann Koponen on May 14, 1953. They lived in Sault Ste. Marie, MI for two years where Riley served a tour of military service before returning to Bismarck in 1955. He retired from Montana Dakota utilities in 1992.

Sports were always a part of Riley's life. He actively participated in basketball, baseball, and softball in his younger years. He enjoyed raising quarter horses. Riley and Betty spent many happy times trail riding and camping with friends. The badlands remained their favorite spot. A memorable trip the two had together was to Alaska for their 50th anniversary

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Betty; two sons, Riley B. (Pam) Neuhardt of Mandan, ND, and Brian Neuhardt of Bismarck, ND; two grandchildren, Emily (Caleb) Perkinson of Fargo, ND, and Brent of Plymouth, MN; great-grandchildren, Decker and Laken. He also leaves behind brother, Harry of Bismarck, ND; in addition to several nieces and nephews.

Riley was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clifford and Roy (Shirley); and two sisters, Ella Jacobsen (Leslie) and Ruth Stark (Frank); and sister in-law, Virginia Neuhardt.
