Rob was born to William and Alma King on February 25, 1930, in Minot, ND, as the fifth of seven children.  He graduated from St. Leo’s High School and went to college at St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN, where he graduated in 1952 with a degree in chemistry.  After graduating he was drafted and served in Korea.

Between basic training and being deployed, he married the love of his life Vivian Larson on April 7, 1953, at St. Leo’s Church in Minot.  After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he continued his education first at Minot State then at UND where he received a master’s degree in education.  They moved with their two-week-old daughter to Turtle Lake, ND, where he was the high school principal and taught math and science until 1963.  They welcomed four more children in six years during their time in Turtle Lake, then moved to Bismarck where he taught chemistry at BHS.  When Century High School opened, he was one of the original eleven colonists to make the move to the new school.  He will always be remembered by his students as a great teacher and for his yearly molecule dance performance.  During the summers, he worked at the State Laboratory as a chemist for 30 years.  In retirement he enjoyed his two hobbies, napping and walking, taking two of each per day.

Rob was a kind and caring patriarch giving his love, time, and attention to his family.  He put everyone else’s needs before his.  His selflessness, love and faith were an example to aspire to.

He is survived by his lovely wife, Vivian; brother, Rich (Donna) King, Dickinson, ND; brother-in-law, Bernie (Eloise) Pellenwessel, Minot, ND; children, Julie White, Thomas King, Nancy King, and Steve (Sandi) King; grandchildren, Trev (Tonya) White, Zach (Lacey) Fiechtner, Kristen (Troy) Warner, Nikki (Ben) Kinn, Stephanie King, Samantha King, Ayla (Matthew) Clendenen and Elijah King-Diede; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his other siblings; eldest daughter, Mary Fiechtner; sons-in-law, Ron Fiechtner and Kim White; and daughter-in-law, Darcy King.
