Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Robert was born on January 21, 1944 to Margit (Lynne) and William Weiss. He lived on the family farm where Menards is now. He graduated from Bismarck High School in May of 1962. In March of 1965, he joined the Air Force and was honorably discharged as Sargent in October 1968.
In 1971, he met Linda Svanes and quickly realized she was the “one”! They were married in March of 1974. They bought a small home on 17th Street shortly after, started remodeling it, and making it their own. They had their first son, Duffy, in January of 1977 and then in April of 1982, a girl: Sally. Robert was an amazing father and even though he had to work crazy hours as a truck driver and with the family business—Weiss House Moving—he still made it to Duffy’s orchestra concerts and Sally’s band concerts. During the summers, Linda and Robert worked on their cabin south of Menoken. He always loved going out there and said it was part of his therapy. Linda started battling cancer in 2001 and Robert and their daughter Sally took care of her—she fought hard until January 29, 2009, when he lost the love of his life. Later that summer in 2009, he told Sally that he didn’t feel right and hadn’t for awhile. So to the doctor he went. He found out he had stage three bladder cancer. He had his bladder removed and the doctors reconstructed a new one from his tissue—that was over nine years ago. He was going to the VA yearly to make sure all was fine. A couple of years ago, he drove himself to the ER because he thought he was having a heart attack, but instead he had a stroke and learned he had a hole in the bottom of his heart, a blockage in his leg, and blood clots so he started doing more checkups at the VA. On Thanksgiving this year he got sick and just couldn’t beat it.
Robert was very proud of his two kids and loved them dearly. He loved to take his grandson Jakob house-moving with him and his two brothers—David and Ted. Robert was a devoted family man, whether it was his kids, sisters and brothers, or friends he was ready to help someone out. He was a very generous man and his laugh was contagious. Anyone who met him loved him. He will definitely be missed.
He is survived by his son, Duffy Weiss, Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Sally Weiss, Bismarck; grandchildren, Jakob Weiss, Bismarck, and Hadly Weiss, Las Vegas, NV; brother, David Weiss, New Salem; sister, Linda Weiss, Belfield; brother, Gordon (Rosie) Weiss, New York; sister, Nancy (Vance) VanWagner, Huff; his brother, Tim Weiss, Belfield; sister, Nola Weiss, Bismarck; brother, Ted Weiss, New Salem; and many nieces, a nephew and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; and his parents, William and Margit.
He missed his best friend and soulmate since he lost her ten years ago, so they’re finally together and probably building a cabin together in Heaven.
