Robin Lynn Thompson, 59, Mandan, passed away on November 23, 2023 at her residence.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Robin was born on January 4th, 1964, in Moorhead, MN, the daughter of Gerald and Karen (Bellin) Thompson. She grew up on the family farm north of Wyndmere, ND. She was active in and enjoyed being a part of Grace Lutheran Church. She attended Wyndmere Public School, graduating in 1982 after spending her senior year as a foreign exchange student in Stockholm, Sweden.
In 1987 she graduated from Bryn Mawr College, Philadelphia PA with dual majors in English Literature and Political Science. In 1991 she graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School. She did legal work in product liability in Minneapolis before moving to Harvey, ND working at a law firm there. Robin ran for and won the office of McHenry County States Attorney and served in that position from 1999 to 2010, along with a private law practice for a number of years until her death, specializing in zoning, real estate, and oil and gas law. She served on several boards including the National District Attorneys Association and the ND States Attorneys Board of Directors. She had also done research and was given membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, of which she was very proud. Robin was a talented musician, playing the piano and the French horn. She served as an organist for the rural church that she and her family attended. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed traveling to many countries across the world. She loved animals and had many pets over the years including dogs, cats, and a rabbit. She was recognized as one of America's top ten animal defenders in 2011 by the Animal Legal Defense Fund. The past several years Robin suffered from numerous health problems and is now at peace.
She was loved and will be missed.
Robin is survived by her son, Ryan Gordon, St. Paul, MN, her mother, Karen Thompson, Bismarck, ND, brothers, Steven (Kristy) Thompson, Gilbert, AZ, Eric (Stephanie) Thompson, Fargo, ND, and many nieces and nephews.
Robin was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Thompson.
