Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 22 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Robin was born on July 15, 1945 in Portland, OR to Lester and Beva (Scott) Werre. Robin attended school in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1963. She graduated from Bismarck Jr. College and Mary College with a degree in Social Studies. Robin went to work for Job Service ND in 1965. While working as a Vocational Counselor, she continued pursuing a master’s degree in Public Administration at the University of North Dakota. While at Job Service ND, Robin received the Glen Dolan Award for outstanding service in Counseling. Robin was stricken with Polio in 1949 and wore a brace and later in life was confined to a wheelchair due to her paralysis. Because of her disability she had a drive and passion to work with individuals with disabilities. Robin was a charter member in the establishment of Pride Inc., Central NoDak Development Corporation. She established the Bis-Man Transit Board where she was the director for over 21 years. She retired from Transit in 2015.
Robin served on many committees and boards serving individuals with disabilities in IAPES, ND Developmental Disabilities Council, the Protection and Advocacy Council, Community Connection Board, the Bis/Mdn Mayors Committee on Employment of Individuals with Disabilities, Community Elder Service Network, and the Dakota Center for Disabilities for several years.
Robin was honored as the Outstanding Handicapped Citizen of Bismarck. In 1975, she was selected as one of the 10 Outstanding Young Women of America for all of her accomplishments.
She was always willing to help someone else when it was needed – as Robin was always up for the challenge and would never let her disability stop her from accomplishing whatever she set out to do.
Robin loved to spend time with family and friends, reading, playing cards, playing bingo, and putting together her family genealogy. Whenever there was a family question, it was always said, “Call Robin, she has it in her books.”
Robin is survived by her sister-in-law Jeanie; niece Lori (Ricky) Holweger; nephews Scott (Melanie) and Todd (Shelly), all of Bismarck; great nieces and nephews, Sarah, Jenna, and Cole Holweger and Brandon, Tiffany, and Nathan Werre; great-grand nieces and nephews Kaiden, Hannah, Logan and Jacob.
She was preceded in death by her brother Walt, parents and grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 Osage Avenue, Bismarck, ND 58501.
