Rose Mary (Schaner) Cook, 78, Bismarck, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center, Bismarck after a short, courageous battle with cancer. A private family service will be held at Eastgate Funeral Service with a burial to take place at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.
Rose Mary was born to Leo and Frances (Friesz) Schaner on March 24, 1941 on the family farm in New Salem. She attended school through the eighth grade in Judson, ND and graduated from New Salem High School.
Rose Mary met her husband Irving Duane Cook 60 years ago while working as a waitress at the Woolworth restaurant. After working for 25 years at Woolworth, she retired from MDU in 2018 after 35 years. Rose Mary and Duane enjoyed their time together walking, working, shopping, going to church, and visiting with family and friends.
Rose Mary is survived by her husband, Duane, Bismarck; five siblings, Helen Oster, New Salem; Viola Beehler, Colstrip, MT; Lloyd (Carol) Schaner, Bismarck; Darlene (Norman) Stein, Mandan; and Gloria Cofer, New Salem; brother-in-law Donald (Virginia) Cook, Bismarck; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law Irving and Christine Cook; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Oster and Alfred Beehler, and sister-in-law Rosemary (Cook) Burtts.
Rose Mary was grateful to have many family and friends to provide comfort to her and most recently loving care by Ernie Thurman, Brad Erickson, and Thad and Caroline Uecker.
