With great sadness, the family of Royann Bement announces the passing of our dear mother. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Sanford Hospital. She was the third daughter of Roy and Mabel Small, born on July 31, 1928. Mother was raised on the Small homestead south of Bismarck.
Royann and Bill, high school sweethearts, were joined in matrimony after the war on July 9, 1947. They moved to Solen, ND to start their ranch life and raise their family of seven. Royann has 17 grandchildren and a whopping 28 great-grandchildren. Her growing family was an extension of her love which was evident by how much she was adored and cherished by all.
Throughout the years this included teaching in a country school, proctoring military testing for the federal government, and shepherding Sunday school students. Her true passion was her family; she lived her dream of raising a family on a beautiful North Dakota ranch.
Her family has described her as outgoing, patriotic, spiritual and inquisitive. Royann has always been interested in other cultures. She enjoyed learning about family ancestry, studied and experienced many of the Native American traditions. Royann loved learning about history, frequently researching topics that sparked her interest. She had many talents, which included art, crafts, singing, drawing, cooking, and gardening. It was a joy to listen to her play the guitar and sing folk songs like Molly Malone.
Royann met many dear lifelong friends and made a point to stay connected. Her sweet and caring nature has enriched the lives of all family, friends and acquaintances. It gives us great joy that she lived a long, colorful life.
She is survived by Bonnie Bement (Blaine Burdick), Lottie Turman (Mike), Cindy Bement, Debbie Bement, Kelly Bement (Trudy), Jayne Miller (Ron), Jill Marshall (Chuck), and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband William C. Bement, and sons William (Billy) Bement and Casey Bement.
This is not goodbye Mother, rather we will see you later.
