Ruben Schlichenmayer, 102, Bismarck, ND, died May 31, 2019.
Services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, June 6, at Bismarck Baptist Church, 2211 Laforest Ave, Bismarck, with Rev. Merle Hoots officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Wednesday, June 5, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.
Burial is at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Ruben was born December 27, 1916 in Turtle Lake, ND to John D. and Elizabeth (Seibel) Schlichenmayer. After graduating from high school, he joined the CCC’s for a year, followed by 2 years of college at NDAC (NDSU). He served in the Army Air Corp as an instrument specialist during WWII. Ruben was a finish carpenter for the John Larson Co. for 30 years.
Ruben married Viona Grueneich in 1951, soon after they built their house, and have lived there ever since. They have a son, Darby, and daughter, Sherry. He was a member of Bismarck Baptist Church, and Ruben’s faith was very important to him.
Ruben was a humble man with an inquisitive mind, always wanting to broaden his knowledge. He used his meticulous carpentry skills to build several furniture items for his family. He enjoyed gardening. Above all, his family brought him the most joy.
Ruben is survived by his wife, Viona; his son, Darby (Barb) Schlichenmayer; his daughter, Sherry (Brad) Legreid; grandsons, Josh (Katie) Schlichenmayer, Luke (Danelle) Schlichenmayer, and J.Morgan Legreid all of Bismarck; granddaughter, Janell (Zach) Burkart of Fargo; great-grandchildren, Teagan, Jaela, Huxten, Vaeda Schlichenmayer; Eden Schlichenmayer and baby boy expected in August. He’s also survived by brother-in-law, Walt Aman; sisters-in-law, Vera Schlichenmayer and Frances Grueneich.
Ruben was preceded in death by his parents; all of his siblings, Ferdinand, Richard, Charlie, Texy, Olga Reimer, Ann Kubler, Esther Herr, Marion Kirschman, Betty Anderson, infant Dorothy.
