Rudy was born on March 29, 1950, to Ervin and Erna Peltz in Bismarck, ND. He grew up on the family farm near Glen Ullin. Rudy graduated from Glen Ullin High School in 1968 and went on to attend Trinity Bible College, in Jamestown, Bismarck Junior College and Dickinson State College.
On August 29th, 1970, Rudy married his high school sweetheart, Darlene. He shared the story about the first time they met, when he was fourteen and she was thirteen. It happened at the Assembly of God Church in Glen Ullin, where he was visiting with a friend. Rudy looked up to see a girl riding her bike, and he fondly remembered the way she looked at him and gave him the most beautiful smile. Darlene made another loop on her bike, and Rudy ran out to the road to talk to her. Rudy and Darlene were married in the same church where they first met, and for the next 53 years, they worked side by side as partners in everything they did.
Throughout his lifetime, Rudy had many different interests when it came to work. As a young man, he enjoyed breaking horses. While in college, he worked as an insurance salesman, a role he continued to do for several years after moving back to the family farm in 1972. The job that Rudy devoted most of his time to was farming and ranching. At the beginning of his ranching career, he raised and sold purebred Simmental cattle and bulls, but later on, he shifted his focus to commercial cattle. He actively farmed until 2006, at which point he rented out the majority of his farmland. Rudy’s inner rancher had him maintain a small cow herd until 2021 when he finally sold his remaining livestock.
In 2010, Rudy and Darlene built a home and moved to Bismarck, where he ventured into home building and constructed several custom and spec homes. During this part of his life, he formed many cherished friendships that remained with him through his final days.
Rudy loved spending time with his family and looked forward to gatherings where he could share his stories and experiences. Watching his grandkids and great grandkids grow was a source of immense joy for him. They were always filled with excitement as they eagerly anticipated motorcycle and side-by-side rides with their beloved Grandpa.
Rudy dedicated his life to serving the Lord. He shared his love for Christ with others by teaching Sunday School in the Glen Ullin Assembly of God Church, being a member of the Gideon’s, singing special music during church services, and engaging in conversations with those around him about Jesus Christ. Rudy had a heart for the souls of people and desired that everyone would know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Rudy’s favorite scripture verse was Matthew 6:33: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Rudy is survived by his children; daughter, Monica (Jim) Reinfeld; sons, Gregory (Elisha) Peltz, Brenton (Katie) Peltz; grandchildren, Paige Kalenze, Dalton Reinfeld, Mila Peltz, Eden Peltz, Corbin Peltz, Isaac Peltz; great grandchildren, Brantley Reinfeld, Ledger Reinfeld, Rohwan Reinfeld; sister, Diane (Dave) Rydin; brother, Vernon (Mary) Peltz; sister-in-law, Irene Wetzel; brother-in-law, Henry Schlak; and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. Rudy was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Peltz; parents, Ervin and Erna Peltz; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Adella Wetzel; sister, Janice Schlak; sister-in-law, Phyllis Kinsella; and brothers-in-law, Harold Kinsella, Eddie Schlak, Donald Wetzel; niece, Carmen Kuntz; and nephew, Danny Kinsella.
