Ruth was born on October 13, 1925 to Jacob and Mabel (Tice) Holwegner in Bismarck, North Dakota. She was one of six children. Life was not easy in the midst of the Great Depression. Ruth did her part, and left school to help provide for her family.
She met the love of her life, Truman Lund, and they married on April 12, 1945. He enlisted in the Army later that year. Upon his return they would go on to raise eight children together. One of the family’s greatest joys was time spent camping, especially in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Her arthritic and beautifully wrinkled hands were shaped by years of hard work and love from caring for her children, doing household chores, gardening, and cooking. Ruth made homemade meals that were not only delicious, but made with love. Although many have tried, her dishes cannot be replicated.
Ruth was a strong woman, fiercely protective of those she loved, especially her family. Her love was unconditional and she had a soft spot in her heart for babies, children, and pets. Ruth recognized those in need, family or friends, and took the time to be their caregiver no matter how long or short the need. She was a friend to many throughout her lifetime. Her quick wit and sense of humor lightened the hearts of family, friends, and acquaintances alike.
Ruth leaves behind her children Vernon (Lennie) Lund, Doris (Arnold) Kuntz, Shirley (Alvin) Rickel, Nancy (Sam) Turnbow, Truman (Cindy) Lund, Kathy (Jeff) Kottenbrock, Tammy (Frank) Reis, and Susan (Ron) Glasser; 16 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. She now joins her loved ones in heaven: her beloved husband Truman; her parents Mabel and Jacob Holwegner and stepfather George Schubert; brothers Albert, Clifford, Les, and Ben Holwegner and sister Isabelle Ringuette; sisters and brothers-in-law; and grandson Keith Kuntz.
Ruth will forever be remembered with deep and abiding love, learned from her Father in heaven and passed on to anyone who had the joy of knowing her.
