Shawkat G. Petrus, 43, passed away on April 11, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 12 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 1919 N. 2nd St., Bismarck. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, N. 23rd St. and E Avenue D, Bismarck.    

Shawkat was born on July 1, 1977 in Kurdistan, Iraq, the son of Greeb and Gazala Petrus.

He grew up in Iraq until 1996 when he came to the United States and settled with his family in Bismarck. He enjoyed in his many activities in the Special Olympics, dancing, singing and his time spent at Pride. He was a very happy person.

Shwakat is survived by his mother, six brothers, five sisters and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.
