Stanley “Stan” Jaeger, 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on August 20, 2019.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am CST on Saturday, August 24, at St. Johns Church, 624 Church Avenue, Hebron, North Dakota.
Stanley was born November 22, 1927, to Ruth Eggert and Oscar Jaeger in Hebron, North Dakota, and attended Hebron High School and NDSU. He met his loving wife Charmaine in high school. They married October 6, 1947, and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family and life-long friends in 2017.
Stanley and Charmaine farmed and ranched north of Hebron for 68 years. Stanley evolved from using a horse-drawn rake as a teen to teaching himself to operate a computerized baler at 85 years old. He gained a reputation as a water-witcher, discovering water sources with a willow stick, for area farmers. He was a self-taught pilot, who loved flying his J-3 Piper Cub, including with skis during snowy North Dakota winters. Four generations had the thrill to share in his love of flying in this plane.
Stanley’s favorite quote was “I was born to hunt.” His skills were published in interviews in several county-wide papers. In one article he was acknowledged as a master coyote caller, who loved the sport. Stanley purchased coyote calls until he discovered that he could mimic the sound of the mouse or wounded rabbit with his own voice and experience as much success. He spoke at the North Dakota Furtakers Rendezvous where he was considered a “coyote calling legend.” He shared his love of the outdoors with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, creating a tradition of annual bird hunting, treasured stories, and family gatherings.
Stanley’s legacy will be passed on to his loving family, including wife Charmaine; children, Bruce (Pat) Jaeger, Hebron, ND; Carol Jaeger, Minneapolis, MN; Tom (Melinda) Jaeger, Minnetonka, MN; grandchildren, Ryan Jaeger, Christine (Jason) Dirk, Stephanie (Travis) Jaeger, Megan Jaeger Stuart, Taylor Jaeger, and great grandchildren, Owen, Evan, Tyler, and Hunter.
