Steve Goetz lost his long and valiant battle with cancer on Memorial Day, Monday May 27, 2019 at his home lovingly surrounded by his wife and children.
His memorial service will be at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 9:30 AM. His burial will take place at 1:00 PM at the ND Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
Steve was born on February 25, 1948 in Fargo. He was blessed to be adopted a month later by Victor and Nevada Goetz. He grew up in Riverdale and moved to Bismarck when he was in the 6th grade. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1966.
Steve was a true American Hero. He enlisted in the US Army in 1967 and proudly served 2 tours in Vietnam. Despite being sprayed with Agent Orange, which caused him many health issues, he was very proud to have served his country and gain the greatly deserved title of Vietnam Vet. He was honorably discharged in September of 1971.
He married Debbie Patch on October 14, 1970. They were blessed with 3 beautiful children. Chad was born on May 25, 1971 at the Fort Bragg Army Base in North Carolina. Stephanie was born on May 30, 1973 in Bismarck. Geoff was born on August 23, 1978 in Minot.
After being discharged from the Army, Steve began working at Plywood Dakotas where he transferred between several locations including Bismarck, Dickinson, and Minot. He then worked for the State of North Dakota for many years. He ended his career with his dream job of being part owner of Jeremiah Wine Company. He loved touring wineries in Napa Valley almost as much as he loved a mighty fine wine.
He is survived by his wife Debbie; son, Chad (Rhonda); daughter, Stephanie (Jamie); son, Geoff (Lindsay) and six beautiful grandchildren, Chanse, Cole, Carter, Matthew, Katherine and Andrew. He is also survived by his Patch family brothers and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Nevada Goetz; mother and father-in-law, Jean and Marvin Patch; brothers-in-law, Billy and Rich Patch; and sister-in-law, Muffy Will.
