Susan Bauer

Susan K. (Boehm) Bauer, 73, Bismarck, ND, left this earth surrounded by her family March 21, 2025, after a courageous and short battle with cancer at Sanford Health Bismarck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 28, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1321 Braman Ave, Bismarck. 

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, March 27, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil will begin at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service. 

Burial will be held at 3:00 PM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. 

Susan was born to Mathias F. and Emma (Barth) Boehm on December 5, 1951, at the Mandan Hospital. She was raised on a farm in Morton County. She attended county school north of Mandan until the 8th grade where she then attended Mandan High School graduating in 1969. She then attended Dickinson State University, graduating in 1973 with a degree in Teaching.

Susan married the love of her life, Robert P. Bauer, on September 1, 1972, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mandan, ND. Together they raised three children Sheri, Robert, and Mathias.

Susan helped established Bauer Construction Company, in Bismarck in April 1976 and maintained ownership after Robert’s death. She also worked at Aetna (US Healthcare) retiring after 22 years.

Susan’s hobbies included gardening, sewing, fishing, dancing, making sausage, traveling, playing cards, and camping. If you knew her, she was always proud to show off her multiple (50+) pots of flowers and her successful garden each year. She was always teaching us something new and that we could do anything. She tended to be quiet but enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Susan is survived by daughter Sheri (Mark) Sayler; and sons Robert (Elizabeth) Bauer, Williston, ND; and Mathias (Shelby) Bauer; grandchildren Morgan (Edwin) Birrenkott, Bryce Sayler (fiancé Alyssa Reich), Rylan and Keaton Bauer, Ella and Jaden Bauer; great-grandchildren Bentley, Makenna, and Clayton Birrenkott; sisters, Geraldine (Dave) Kath, Nevada, Patricia Stein; sisters-in-law, Joan Boehm, Sheila Boehm, Jeanette Bauer, Isabelle Ferderer, Linda Hurt, Nevada; brothers- in-laws, Kasper Kraft, New Salem Joseph, Montana, Calvin(Nancy), Williston; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Susan preceded in death by her husband Robert, infant daughter; her parents, Mathias F. and Emma; parents-in-law Aloisus and Anna Marie (Vogel) Bauer; brothers, Mathias, Ernest, and William; sister, Donna Kraft, New Salem; brothers-in-law, Jerry Stein, Edwin, Mathias, Daniel, Celestine, and Herman Bauer, Pete Ferderer, Fritz Van Geldern, John Hurt; sisters-in-law, Cecilia Van Geldern, Bea Bauer, California, Dorothy Bauer, Montana, and Shirley Bauer, Selfridge.
