Susan K. Larson

July 4, 1945 — July 9, 2023

Bismarck

Susan Kristine Larson, 78, passed away peacefully on July 9th, 2023.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, Wednesday, July 19th, 2023, at Parkway Funeral Home, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A social gathering luncheon will immediately follow the service. Cremation will take place, and a family service will take place in Mandan at a later date.

Susan was born in Bismarck, ND on July 4, 1945 to Pearl and Arnold Larson. Susan was the fourth of five children. At two years old, Susan was admitted to the Grafton State School (now Life Skills and Transition Center), where she remained until 1985. She then moved back to Bismarck and lived in a group home, and in 1993 moved into the home she lived at for the remainder of her life, both managed through HIT, Inc. Susan began receiving guardianship services through Catholic Charities of North Dakota in 2020.

Susan truly lived her life to the fullest through simple pleasures; spending time with her close friends and housemates, snacking on her favorite foods, drinking her favorite beer, making baskets, sewing or making necklaces. Susan had a wonderful knack for solving problems. For example, when something was torn she would simply stitch it up with some yarn or fix it with stickers. Susan had an uncanny way of reaching your heart with her kindness, and at times her way of joking around with you. She loved things that had flair, like beautiful rings and shiny things that gave her a little pop. Susan was a hard worker, and worked hard on a HIT Hotel crew until her retirement. She kept her home tidy making her bed, doing dishes etc… She loved her favorite shows like cops and football; what can we say she loved a man in uniform. Susan was blessed to have many good and loyal staff in her homes and day program that worked with her for many years. Susan’s staff, housemates, and peers were very important to her throughout her life, and were seen as family to her. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered in everyone’s heart who had the privilege of having gotten to know her.

Susan is survived by her mother, Pearl Larson of Kenai, Alaska; brothers Mark Larson also of Kenai; and David Larson of Cody, Wyoming.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, Arnold; brother, Peter Larson; and sister Karen Syvrud.

The family wishes to thank HIT Inc. and Catholic Charities North Dakota and everyone who worked with Susan throughout the years for providing such wonderful care for her.
