Sylvia was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on January 31, 1960, to Norman and Lydia (Gunsch) Mosbrucker. At the age of five months, Sylvia entered the Grafton State School (now Life Skills and Transition Center), where she remained until 1985. She then relocated back to Bismarck to a group home managed by HIT Inc. and additionally began receiving services from Catholic Charities North Dakota in 1988. Sylvia was blessed to have many good and loyal staff in her homes and day programs that worked with her for many years. Sylvia’s staff, housemates, and day program peers were very important to her throughout her life and were seen as family to her. She will be deeply missed by many.
Sylvia loved to look nice and be pampered. She enjoyed it when staff would help her put on makeup, do her hair, and paint her nails. Sylvia loved to joke around with others as well. She would often be seen blowing “raspberries” and laughing, and she liked to stick out her tongue to “check out her long tongue”. Sylvia also enjoyed looking at books and magazines and playing cards.
Sylvia is survived by her mother, Lydia (Gunsch) Mosbrucker, her brothers, Steven (Karen) Mosbrucker, Jerry (Rebecca) Mosbrucker, and Thomas Mosbrucker, and her sister, Janet Billingsley. Sylvia was preceded in death by her father, Norman Mosbrucker.
The family wishes to thank HIT Inc. and Catholic Charities North Dakota and all of those who worked with Sylvia throughout the years for providing such wonderful care for her.
