Tanya Marie Ekart, 61, died Nov. 25, 2021, at her home in Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec 20 at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 519 Raymond St., Bismarck. A service livestream will be available at the link: https://venue.streamspot.com/event/Mjk2NDkxMA==
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A rosary will begin at 6 p.m.
Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.
Tanya was born February 17, 1960, at El Dorado, Kansas, the daughter of Sylvester C. and Marna J. (Murray) Ekart. She attended grade schools in Eureka, KS, and in Towanda, Somerset and Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School and University of Mary, both of Bismarck.
While working in Indianapolis, Indiana, she earned a CPA degree. She worked for the Department of Defense (DOD) at 5th Army Headquarters at Fort Riley, Kansas, and for DOD at the Presidio in California before her transfer to DOD Financial Center in Indianapolis. While at Indianapolis, she completed an assignment for DOD in Japan. She later worked for the US Forest Service in Bismarck and Albuquerque, New Mexico. She retired from federal service at Department of Homeland Security in 2020 in Bismarck.
Tanya was a member of and active in the CCD program at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck.
She is survived by her daughter, Taylor Marie Ekart, Decatur, Ill.; father, Sylvester Ekart, Bismarck; sister, Sharon (Don), Savage, Minn.; brothers, Brian Ekart, New Brighton, Minn., and brother, Jim (Jeanne) Ekart, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother Marna in 2019.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
