Theresia was born on September 8, 1928 on the family farm in Logan County, the daughter of Michael and Genevieve (Goldade) Schmidt. She was raised and educated in the St. Boniface Church area of Logan County until after the death of her mother in 1943. At that time, she, her father, brothers and her sister moved to a farm northeast of Braddock, ND. This is where she (and her sister) became the household caretakers for their father and six brothers.
She married Peter Neigum in Braddock on June 21, 1948. They farmed about eight miles south of Braddock until the fall of 1949. At which time they moved to Bismarck, ND. And made that their home. This is where she raised seven sons and one daughter.
She was a stay-at-home mother until her children were raised and out of school. She then worked for the Bismarck Public Schools as a "bus monitor" for many years before retiring.
She enjoyed sewing and embroidering and was very good at both, continuing until her eyesight failed and she could no longer do either. In the earlier years, she sewed many "matching shirts" (for her sons and husband) and "matching blouses" for her and her daughter. The family was definitely noticed in the pews in church on Sundays. She also was quite a cake decorator.
Making numerous wedding cakes. She also made many birthday cakes for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons: Mike (Mary A.); Alex (Sandra); Peter; Gary (Kim); Anthony (Amy); Richard (fiancée Andrea); daughter Theresia (Junelle); daughter-in-law Mary Jo. She is also survived by her 21 grandchildren: Michael, Ben, Zach Neigum, Sarah Ternes; Amy Fischer, Josh Neigum, Tasha Schacher; Jacob, Joey Neigum, Jennifer Neigum-Stanley, Jessica Dargis; Toby Neigum, Eliza Anukwu; Melissa Roller, Tanya Dick, Michelle Dehne, Alisha Anderson; Vicki, Evan Neigum; River, Canyon Neigum, Jacob Bohrer. As well as 41 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She also is survived by six sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
Theresia was preceded in death by her husband Peter; her son Jacob; granddaughter Melanie; daughter-in-law Connie Neigum; her parents and all her siblings: Tony, John, Steve, Andrew, Peter, Eugene Schmidt and sister Lorraine Kiefer.
