Vernon Giese, 81, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 27, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be held at 12:00 PM at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Vernon was born on August 1, 1942 in Mandan to Theodore and Verna Giese. Vernon attended Beaver Valley grade school and New Salem High School where he graduated in 1961.
Vernon married Carmen Theisen on June 23, 1964. The couple were blessed with two children, Lori and Jamy.
After high school, Vernon went to work for the North Dakota State Highway Department and worked there until his retirement in 2007, after 46 years. Vernon also entered the North Dakota Army National Guard in 1963 until 1968, and again, he entered back in, in 1973 until he retired in 2002 serving 34 years. Vernon enjoyed helping with the family farm. He would go out to the farm on the weekends and help his father whenever he could. Vernon was a good auto mechanic and loved to fix and repair vehicles. He loved to hunt, and his favorite was deer hunting. Later in his life, Vernon was an avid tinkerer. He liked to buy and fix small engine equipment and resell them again.
Vernon is survived by his son, Jamy; brother, Robert; grandson, Justin; son-in-law, Ronald; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen; daughter, Lori; parents, Theodore and Verna; and sister, Lavonne.
