Violet (Vi) Nicola

Violet (Vi) Skaff Nicola, 97, departed this life on July 25, 2019.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 1^st, at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 601 N. 4^th St., Bismarck, with Canon Hal Weidman officiating.

The family will receive guests and have a time of sharing at the luncheon immediately following the service.

Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.

Vi was born February 19, 1922 in McClusky, ND, to Abraham and Eva (Abdo) Skaff.  After attending public schools, Vi graduated from McClusky High School and attended Interstate Business College in Fargo.   Following a brief career as a secretary, Vi married Dr. Joseph Nicola, on May 11, 1947 and they raised three children in Bismarck.  

Vi was president of the North Dakota Dental Auxiliary, active in Eastern Star, and P.E.O. Chapter AP, and served on the vestry and guilds at St. George's Episcopal Church as a lifelong member.

Vi enjoyed organizing and hosting family gatherings, visiting family and friends, cooking, and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She was compassionate and generous, dedicated to her family and friends, and valued for her wise counsel.

Since 2013, Vi resided at Touchmark, a Bismarck assisted living facility, where she received and appreciated tender and dependable care.

She leaves three children, Thomas Nicola, Washington, D.C., Marlys Nicola Busch (Steven), Spokane, Washington, and Randy (Susie) Nicola, Bismarck; four grandsons, Nicholas (Ashley) and Marc (Alison) Busch, and Joe and Billy (Tressa) Nicola; sister-in-law Evelyn Skaff, and seven great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, who died in 1995, her brother Victor Skaff, and parents.
