Wallace M. Owen, 90, Bismarck, passed away on September 24, 2019 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 4, 10:30 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 106 Osage Ave, Bismarck.

He was born in Fargo on August 31, 1929 to Carl and Elizabeth (Hedland) Owen. He graduated from Kindred High School. After serving in the Navy, he attended the University of North Dakota graduating with an Engineering degree. He was employed by the Public Service Commission as Chief Engineer. Wallace retired after 33 years.

Wallace married Betty Schmidt on September 26, 1959 in Enderlin, ND. to which three children we’re born: Mason, Kelley, and Jill.

He was instrumental in starting the hockey program in Bismarck. He even flooded his own backyard so his kids and neighborhood kids could enjoy skating.

Wallace was a member of the Optimist Club and held many positions over the years. After retirement he took up the game of Curling, which he thoroughly enjoyed for several years. He enjoyed and spent a lot of time on his rural property by Alkaline Lake near Streeter. Wallace adopted the hobby of bird watching and building “bluebird” houses.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; son Mason (Peggy); daughters Kelley, Anne, and Jill; grandson Chase (Katie); nephews John (Louise) and David; and one niece Mary Hertsgaard.

He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Elizabeth Owen; sisters Harriet (Phillip) Hertsgaard and Donna Owen.

Memorials may be sent to Alzheimer’s Research, the ND Veteran’s Cemetery, or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
