Walter G. Sailer entered the Kingdom of Power, on September 13, 1931, the Kingdom of Grace at his baptism, October 11, 1931 and the Kingdom of Glory on February 19, 2024. “Blessed are the dead which die in the word from henceforth; ‘Yea,’ saith the Spirit, ‘that they may rest from their labors and their works to follow them.’” Rev. 14:13b.
Funeral service will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church, 413 E. Ave D, Bismarck with visitation starting one hour prior to service.
Burial will be on Tuesday at 2:00 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
He was born on September 13, 1931 in Hazen, North Dakota to Reinhold and Martha (Kessler) Sailer. He attended elementary school north of Stanton and graduated from Concordia high school in St. Paul Minnesota and also attended Concordia college in Minnesota and St. John College in Windfield, Kansas.
He served during the Korean conflict with United States Army and was honorably discharged in December of 1951.
On November 23, 1955 he married Violet Schweigert.
Wally worked for the North Dakota Department of transportation materials lab for 39 years.
He was a lifelong member of Zion and served as Sunday school superintendent. He also taught confirmation and Sunday School and served on the board of elders.
He was a member of the North Dakota state employees Association, the AMVETS and the American Legion.
Wally enjoyed fishing and spending time at the cabin, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Violet; his children, Sandra and Steven Haux and David and Bernie Sailer; grandchildren and their families, Whitney (Justin) Vogel, Mattea (Preston Bucholz) Haux, Aaron (Emma) Haux and their children, Walter and Evelyn, Ryan (Kelsey) Sailer and their children, Preslei, Luna and Rowan and Andrew Sailer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Waldemar Sailer.
Memorials are preferred to Martin Luther school 413 E Ave D, Bismarck, ND 58501
