Wendell Edward Albert died November 1, 2018 at Sunset Drive in Mandan, ND. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 7, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Cremation has taken place; therefore, no visitation will be held. Wendell was born on March 27, 1925 in Quincy, Massachusetts, the son of Alfred and Stella (Hansen Albert. When he was several months old, his family moved to the adjoining town of Braintree where Wendell and his two brothers were raised and educated in public schools. He graduated from high school in June of 1943 and immediately entered the U.S. Army. He served in Europe during 1944-45 with the 84th Infantry Division in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central European Campaigns. He was honorably discharged about Christmas of 1945. In early 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and eventually served most of 1951 in Korea with the 4th Fighter Wing during the Chinese Communist Forces Spring Offensive, The United Nations Summer Fall Offensive and the Second Korean Winter (1951-52) Campaigns. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in early 1952. Immediately following his military service, he attended the University of Massachusetts where he graduated in 1956 with a degree in the field of wildlife management. He then worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a field biologist in several eastern and Midwest states, coming to North Dakota in 1964. He retired from the service in 1980 after 25 years of service. While assigned to the Service’s Bismarck field office, Wendell met and married Imogene Irvine. A loving wife of more than 38 years. Wendell is survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy in Vermont; and several nephews and nieces. Wendell was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene; his parents; his two brothers, William & Walter; and a baby sister Iris.
