Wesley Jay Wiedenmeyer, 64, died May 12, 2018 at a Bismarck hospital after complications from renal cancer. He fought bravely for over five years. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday May 17, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church 502 N 4th St, Bismarck, ND with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Family will greet visitors from 6:00 pm – 7:45 pm on Wednesday May 16 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:45pm. Wes was born to Herbert and Deloris (Renner) Wiedenmeyer on November 13, 1953. He was raised in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1972. He graduated from Bismarck Junior College in 1974 and went on to North Dakota State University graduating with a degree in civil engineering in 1976. He married his high school sweetheart, Sandy Vander Linden, on June 26 of that year. During his college years he worked part-time for the U.S. Geological Survey and returned to federal employment with the Soil Conservation Service in 1977. He was transferred to Bismarck in 1978 where he continued to work until his retirement in 2008. Wes held numerous engineering positions that involved the planning, design, construction and maintenance of projects ranging from on-farm conservation practices to major flood retarding installations. He served as the State Conservation Engineer for the Natural Resources Conservation Service the last 17 years of his career. Before his illness Wes was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving on numerous committees, boards, and offices on the church council. Wes enjoyed watching sports, especially those involving his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. Annual pheasant hunting trips to South Dakota was also part of his fall ritual for over three decades. He is survived by his wife, Sandy; his son, Chad (Crystal) Wiedenmeyer and daughter, Jessica (Kelly) Koble; his grandchildren, Makayla and Audrey Wiedenmeyer, Blake and Kalie Koble; his brother, Mike (Faye) Wiedenmeyer; and his sister, Cheryl (Curt) Axtman, brother-in-law, Ron Vander Linden (Glenda), six nephews; Chris and Nick Wiedenmeyer, Corey and Casey Axtman, Jason and Justin Vander Linden and several great nephews and great nieces. He is also survived by his step-mother Elsie Wiedenmeyer; a step-brother Allen (Kris) Lindeman; and two step-sisters, Sandy (Bob) Cole and Sharon (Ken) Boe. He was preceded in death by his parents.
