William "Bill" Goldammer

May 23, 1942 — February 14, 2019

William “Bill” Donald Goldammer, 76, of Wing ND, died February 14th, 2019, at Sunset Prospera Memory Care Center, while taking a break from dancing during their annual Valentine’s day afternoon ball.

Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Church of God 7th Day, 406 Winchester Street, Alfred, ND.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 20th at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, ND. Sharing of memories service will begin at 7:00 pm.

Bill was born May 23rd, 1942, in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Howard and Enid Goldammer. He attended elementary, middle, and high school in Fargo, ND. After high school, Bill remained in Fargo where he furthered his education, played football, and earned his bachelor’s degree at NDSU.

While attending NDSU, he joined the Air Force ROTC program. Following college, 2nd Lt Goldammer, served as a pilot in the Air Force from 1964 to 1966, when his military career was ended due to a car accident.

After a lengthy recovery, Bill furthered his education by earning multiple master’s degrees from Oregon State University and USC. During that time period, he also made up for lost experiences while recovering by traveling around the world – skiing in New Zealand, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming, amongst other locations, as a ski bum extraordinaire.

Returning to North Dakota, looking to put down some roots, he moved back to Fargo and began the search for a job. It was at NDSU that Bill noticed a young woman in swim practice, who would later become his wife. Betty Jo Schlenker aka “Buns” won his heart shortly and they married on August 8th 1974.

Serving in the Civil Air Patrol, teaching Sabbath school, coaching football, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family were his passions. He retired from Farmer’s Union Insurance in 2008 after a fulfilling career. He loved God, his wife, family, friends and his country with all his heart.

Bill will be remembered by so many people whose lives he touched in a moving and positive way. Always smiling and cheerful, nothing seemed to affect him negatively. His infectious grin and strong hug made anyone who met him instantaneously happier. He encouraged and mentored anyone he met through his example in words, actions, and intent.

The family would like to thank the amazing team at Sunset Prospera for making his last year comfortable (and if you could ask Bill, FUN).

Bill is survived by his wife, Betty Jo; two sons, Arthur and Donald; daughter, Sally; grandson, Chaxton, and granddaughter, Lukah.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and son (Douglas).

Memorials may be given to Central Dakota Humane Society, Furry Friends Rockin Rescue, or Heaven’s Helpers Soup Kitchen.

The world needs more men like Bill. We will miss him.
