Adelaide E. Johnson, 99, Tuttle, died March 6, 2022, at Missouri Slope in Bismarck. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 13 at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave, with Rev. Allen Wagner officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7p.m. Saturday, March 12 at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m.
Burial will be held at a later date in the spring at Bethany Cemetery, Robinson.
Adelaide Elnora (Hetletved) Johnson was born on August 2, 1922, to Gus and Violet (Blake) Hetletved at their farm in northern Kidder County. She was raised on the farm, attended rural country schools and later in life obtained her high school diploma. She worked as housekeeper for area homesteaders and as a waitress at Woodlawn Hotel in Steele. On November 20, 1942, Adelaide married Edwin Johnson in Woodworth. She farmed and ranched alongside Edwin for 60+ years.
Adelaide was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Robinson where she taught Sunday and Bible School, served as Sunday School Superintendent, served on the church council, sang in the choir and served as Sunday Service Scripture Reader. She was a member of the North Kidder Farmerettes Homemakers Club for 50+ years. She served as a 4-H Leader for both Merkel Twins and Tuttle Highliners 4-H Clubs. From 1991-92, Adelaide served as the president of the North Dakota Association of Soil Conservation Auxiliary after being active in the Kidder County auxiliary for years. She served for many years as the Atwood Township treasurer and helped care for the St. Petri Cemetery. She enjoyed baking, cooking, quilting, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Adelaide is survived by her children, Eunice Doreen (Myron) Meidinger, Bismarck, Burdell (Theo) Johnson, Tuttle, Janell (John) Quinlan, Bismarck, and son-in-law, Leonard Fetzer, Fargo; eight grandchildren, Lanny (Virginia) Fetzer, Lana (Matt) Anderson, Landon Fetzer, Sheldon Meidinger/Jamie Irey, Shannon Meidinger, Keri (Jason) Braun, Stephanie Johnson, Michael (Jessica Chapman) Johnson; eight great-grandchildren, Josie, Blake, and Sutton Braun, Adalee and Elijah Anderson, Brindelyn Fetzer, Wesley and Marshall Johnson; two sisters, Arletta Hanson, Bismarck and Luella Wick Semmens, Carrington.
She was preceded in her death by her husband, Edwin; her daughter, Lo Ann Fetzer; her parents; three brothers and their spouses, Clois, Lyle and Dale Hetletved; and one sister, Vivian Hirchert.
