Lorine Fedje, 85, Bismarck, passed away on Oct. 20, 2021.

A private family service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Monday, Oct. 25 with burial to follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. A service livestream will be available.

Lorine was the daughter of the late Leo and Anne Smith, of Sherwood, ND. She is survived by her brother Jerry and her sister Judy. Beloved siblings who preceded her in death were brothers Leonard, Willis, Clayton and sister, MaryAnn.

Lorine and Dick Fedje were married for many years and to this union was born the light of their life Julie. Dick preceded Lorine in death, passing away in 2008.

Julie blessed them with two grandsons, Andrew and Stephen, who gave them years of joy and happiness.

Her professional 40 year career was in elementary education. Mrs. Fedje was always held in high regard by her students, who have been quick to share that they were always so happy to have been lucky enough to be in her classroom. Her fondness for teaching and opportunity to bring joy through art, “showdeo movie days”, Mrs. Fedje’s pumpkin bars, and being a presence at all school activities rewarded her with seeing the happiness her students enjoyed.

She was the garage sale queen!  If you ever had the pleasure of this experience you know well, that there is a certain rule that a sign for a sale is a sure stop for treasure. Lorine was gifted with a green thumb, and loved her flowers and plants, particularly petunias and Christmas cactus. During her time spent living in Spearfish, Lorine could often be found at “The Gulch” in Deadwood, winning BIG!  During football season you could hear the cheering (hollering) for her favorite Minnesota Vikings!  She also loved watching the NDSU Bison, as well at Tiger Woods playing golf.

Mom enjoyed her birdwatching, a pastime that she often shared with Julie as a child which became one of Julie’s favorite pastimes as well, because of the sweet memory.

Lorine, Mom, Sis, Auntie, Grandma…She was someone we all enjoyed the company of, someone who we turned to in good times and when things were not going so smooth. Without a doubt she could help just by listening which she always made time to do. Her wisdom, her faith, her humor are only a few of the things that made our lives better by having her in our world.

“Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart” -Eleanor Roosevelt
