Terry Jo Krenz

July 13, 1960 — October 4, 2018

Terry Jo Krenz, age 58, died following her seven-year battle with ovarian cancer on October 4, 2018, in her home surrounded by her loved ones. Terry was born July 13, 1960, at Steven’s Memorial Hospital in Morris, MN, the daughter of Harlan and Bernice (Thorstad) Boerner. Terry attended Herman High School (Herman, MN) from 1972 (7th grade)-1976 (11th grade); and then transferred to Jefferson Senior High School (Alexandria, MN) where she graduated in 1978. She continued to Moorhead State University to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, and met her husband and love of her life, Mark Krenz. Terry and Mark were married on March 2, 1985, in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bismarck, ND, and celebrated 33 years of marriage this year. Terry was a vibrant person, with a love for the beautiful details of life whether it was a good book, the majesty of a tree, or pouring herself into deep conversations with friends and family. Terry had a way of highlighting the beauty in the world to all those who were in her presence and had a warm inviting personality and smile that drew people to her. She loved her family immensely, and for Terry, the world would stop if one of her girls needed her and she would impart sage wisdom, validation, and empathy. Terry also loved taking drives with her husband Mark in the countryside. These drives reminded her of her youth, growing up on the farm and driving down dirt roads. She loved living on the farm and told many stories of her and her siblings playing outside from morning until dusk and walking the long, expansive gravel driveway that stretched from the farm to the nearest road. Terry’s sister Tami recalled playing ‘majorettes’ together by putting old ice cream buckets on their heads and marching around in their big boots. Her farm roots helped her become a very impressive gardener. Her yard was always full of vibrant colors, exotic plants, and fresh fruits and vegetables. The night before she died, Mark and Terry’s girls enjoyed homemade spaghetti Chloe made from tomatoes harvested from Terry’s garden. She had a deep appreciation for music, including her lifelong favorite, Bruce Springsteen. Although the musician she cherished most was Mark, who played guitar for her in their home. Terry even took up piano lessons with Olivia when she was well into her 50’s; she was never afraid to try something new. She enjoyed walking with her dogs, tending to her beautiful garden (which she did until the end of her days), loved horses and riding horse, talking and laughing with her girls, playing board games, working on puzzles, and playing and reading books with her little grandson Cameron. Terry is survived by her husband Mark, her children Caitlin (Craig), Chloe, and Olivia, her grandson Cameron, her sister Tamera Stoneburg, her brothers Scott Boerner and Thomas Boerner, her nephews Joshua Stoneburg, Aaron Boerner, Derek Boerner, Grant Boerner, Taylor Krenz, Cy Krenz, Tristan Boerner, Ryan Boerner, Summit Boerner, Indy Boerner, her nieces Anwen Teachout, Erica Krenz, Amanda Krenz, Corynne Krenz, and Hanna Krenz, and many other extended family members and friends. Terry was preceded in death by her parents: Harlan Boerner and Bernice Boerner and her siblings: Debra Ann, Mark, Michael, Paul, and Bruce. Services will be held on Wednesday, October 10 at 11am at Bismarck Community Church, 1617 Michigan Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Jared Lee officiating. Visitation will be held at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, on Tuesday, October 9, from 4pm-9pm with a prayer service at 7pm.
